Nepal Stand Up Take Action 2009
With strong connections with both civil society organizations (CSOs), local bodies and the UN system, the UN Millennium Campaign in Nepal focuses on policy advocacy work and campaign efforts, combining the perspectives from grassroots community-based organizations and the UN, to create stronger policy and practice change for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Nepal.

Hundreds of people gathered on October 16, 2009 for the Stand Up mobilization in Kathmandu and pledged their support for the MDGs as President Ram Baran Yadav reaffirmed his commitment towards building a just and equal society.
The President read the Stand Up Pledge with members of the Constituent assembly at an event organized by the National Planning Commission and UN in Nepal at the President’s Official residence, which was broadcast live on national television.

The Prime Minister in his statement called upon the concerned agencies to implement MDGs related policies and programmes sincerely within 2015.

Launch of the Campaign
On October 12, a press conference was held at the UN house in Kathmandu to launch the Campaign.

A group of nine CA members, representing all parties, ethnicities, religion reiterated their commitment to work towards achieving the MDGs in Nepal and appealed to the press to publicize Stand Up in a massive scale.
On July 28, 2009 the Millennium Campaign launched the “Stand Up” 2009 logo in Kathmandu. The annual mobilization event where citizens press their demand for MDGs, took place on October 16-18, 2009.

Thousands of people gathered in a large open-air theatre in the heart of Kathmandu on October 16 to Stand Up for peace and the reduction of poverty at a concert hosted by the Millennium Campaign and the Art of Living.
The concert featured folk songs, religious songs set to the tune of rock music and performances by some of Nepal’s top singers.
